Curated by The Stranger music columnist and KEXP Street Sounds host, DJ Larry Mizell Jr., Emerald City Visions is the featured event of SIFF’s Face the Music category, which runs as part of the festival’s 25-day program and features a series of films that offer a revealing glimpse into the stories behind some of the world’s most talented musicians. The event will showcase Seattle hip-hop’s diverse flair and style in a head nodding audiovisual extravaganza.

The featured event will be the re-imagined hip-hop version of The Wiz, featuring the genius of OC Notes, who reinterprets the classic musical with a fresh flavor in a way that's never been done before. Live performances by Mizell’s own ribald trio, Don't Talk To The Cops, Metal Chocolates and video mixing by DJ DV-One showcase the breadth and depth of local beats and rhymes.

An award-winning Broadway production that opened on Broadway in 1975, The Wiz won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The 1978 silver screen adaption was directed by Sidney Lumet, produced by Motown head Berry Gordy, and featured musical arrangements by the legendary Quincy Jones, and performances by Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, and Richard Pryor. Retrospectively revered as a culturally significant, urbanized retelling of L. Frank Baum’s "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", The Wiz is ripe for reinterpretation by contemporary artists.
