Golden Plains has certainly had a charmed life so far, and long may it continue. Blessed with (mostly) glorious Autumnal weather, remarkable lineups and a peaceful, fun-loving patronage, she has sailed along serenely in her first four years. Dunno about you but to us this year – her Fifth – feels like her time to really shine, to blossom, to live in nobody’s shadow.
The idea of Golden Plains was around for years before she had a name or a birthdate. The team here took a long time to refine and define what it was we thought she might be. As with most plans of mice and men, she hasn’t really turned out as we thought she would. She’s turned out even better – Golden Plains has very much evolved naturally, propelled by the wishes and desires of the people who attend, rather than by any one grand plan, and that’s how a festival should probably be. There are a few things that are undeniable and intrinsic to her character – that she’s in Autumn, at the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, on a Long Weekend, and is a smaller size than the Meredith Music Festival (also held at that site). Those elements are given. After that, all plans have been superseded by glorious natural evolution. Golden Plains is her own, and she is yours. Blaze the trail, we’ll follow the breadcrumbs through the forest. Something like that. The point is, Golden Plains is in absolutely perfect condition and No.5 will see her in full bloom.
