Last.fm is not handling the feedback well, IMHO

Pro-site more abusive as non? I could have linked hundreds of quotes from that group which basicly show the immaturity of some of the members.
Then again - last.fm staff themselves started out by calling people who didn't like the new design for whiners within the first 24 hours - it pretty much went downhill from there...

You're still complaining that moderators are following the rules which last.fm asked them to do. Yeah something a harsh post erupts and i don't blame any of them. The amount of abuse they get from you guys is unbelievable.Oh come on - a couple of them shoot down threads like midwestern gunslingers - I can buy the doublethread argument, but I can't stand inconsistency.

No disrespect to the staff, but they're no superman or something and they can't sit 24/7 working on Last.FM. They are working on it-Reply Tracker is back, top 500 is back, my avatar doesn't get in my shoutbox. Again, it's only a site. You guys make too much drama.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure there's 11K because you guys advertise it in EVERY HOLE.

    I'm off.
i wonder why you even bothered coming back since you 1)again showed you haven't read any of the other inputs and 2)replied to a mystery post which you haven't even bothered quoting...

maybe because the "Quote" link doesn't actually work?

I wonder why the old owner didn't (if he didn't) pour some cash into some additional server hardware with all the money CBS gave him?

I hope he didn't pull the "cash check and abandon website" method.

And to all the "I am gonna leave" folks, why are you whining here and not deleting your account?

Just get over it people, it reminds me of the same amount of bitching during the 2000 presidential elections.

The old design is GONE/DEAD/NO LONGER AROUND so stop asking for it back, especially the extremists and hardliners. Your 10k person group isn't gonna help too much without proper criticism.

Point me to another site that will import my track listings that I uploaded for the last few YEARS, and will work like Last.fm worked, and I'll leave right now. Having no option doesn't mean I'll be happy with it.

I didn't read all the comments, I'll probably do it later.

    Uhum.

I support the new design. The old sucked. Never liked it, it was also quite slow. I felt like it was hard moving to pages other than my profile. This one is much more easier. The recommendation system is YEARS AHEAD of the old one. It's much more useful to me. Aside from that, the old one felt quite outdated. The library feature was great. Don't give me crap "Too many pictures!". Also, no "I have no scroll down" stuff. I mean, is it SO hard to scroll down? I had to scroll down more in the old one.

Why on earth would I want to see pictures of the bands I JUST LISTENED TO sitting on my home page? Why do you find it useful/better?

And you didn't have to scroll more on the old one. You certainly had to click less. All important info was right there on the dashboard, what you're friends were listening, last scrobbled tracks, shoutbox, top tracks. Who decided that the shoutbox should become a comment system? I like less talking. I don't want other's people comments cluttering my personal page.

I think there is one big misconception in the new layout, and that is the "home" page: the old Dashboard was made for ME to look at, it prioritized things relevant to me. The new 'home' page is made for OTHERS to look at, like a social website. So I lost my personal page, where I could keep track of MY stuff. Now it's all buried in menus and page scrolls.

A very good example of bad design is the "gear" toolbox when you hover a track: why do you need a drop-down menu for 2 options? Just put them side by side. You need a dropdown when you go over 4 or 5 functions, otherwise you're just adding unnecessary clicks. Even Orkut is better at this.

Oh, what you guys do is whining, because it's only a site and you're getting really butt-hurt over it. Don't get me wrong, I love this site and it's probably my most-visited one, I'm just getting a little sick of the whining.

Maybe you should stop reading instead of whine about other's posts.

Bit OT but ... whine usually causes counter whine. So basicly - you people asked for it. Imagine some people want to use the stuff they like in peace. You know how for example my little persistent person showed up in the discussion anwyay? Cause I found a link spammed randomly on the pages of songs and artists a listen to.

You want freedom? Ok, but freedom brings responsibility ... freedom of speech brings people who might not agree with you and it's their freedom too.

So it seems the general concencus here is that the new design completely defeats the purpose of last.fm. I was always under the impression that this site was used to easily access data of your listening habits, get recommendations and browse users with similar tastes, etc; The problem with the new design is that the ease of access to those things seems to have been made a bit more difficult. While I applaud the new real time updates, it really is disappointing that everything has been moved in such a way, that you have to navigate several pages to see the detail of certain charts and stats, where as with the old design, there was more room and most of those stats were visible right on the main page.

I think people are more so complaining about having to navigate so much to access things that were so easily accessed in the past. What the the horribly embarrassing loading time, this is a nuisance. The space that is used for artist pictures REALLY isn't necessary, as this is mostly an aesthetic change rather than a functionality change and also adds to the cause of the slow loading time.

When I first got the e-mail for beta testing, I reserved most judgment just to see how things went and get a feel for things myself. I can say, I'm really not impressed. I'm not sure I understand why this design went live when it was painfully obvious that it just IS NOT READY. There are so many bugs and errors it's completely laughable.

On somewhat of a sidenote, I have not even been able to access ANY of the links at the top of the navigation, nor have I been able to access settings NOR have I been able to apply changes to my profile because the pages just do.not.load. Not at all, what so ever. I have a pretty reliable broadband connection and I understand that with the site revision the servers may be a bit slow but not loading at all for over a week?

I know that there would be a few with any new redesign site launch with sites as extensive as last.fm but this is just ridiculous.

I sincerely hope the staff takes into consideration the opinions of those who aren't just ranting that they think the layout is 'ugly' or looks like myspace or facebook, but to the vast majority of people who are making legitimate arguments as to WHY the functionality of the site has greatly depleted and that these aren't all just aesthetic complaints but legitimate functionality concerns.

I don't like the new layout either. Simplicity and clarity is effectiveness in a website (surely a consideration for a commercial concern) and this one requires too many scrolls and shifts of focus. This is all the more true in the Web 2.0 era. But I don't expect Last.fm to roll back or revise anything under pressure from users, mainly because people will continue to use the site. Once the user numbers remain the same or, more likely, increase in the medium term then there will be no reply to the many objections much less a row back. But for what it's worth I say 'Throw out the New!!'

To the person who claimed 10,000,000 users total renders the 11,000 group members a minority -- keep in mind that, of all those millions, of people, a very small percentage use the forums and are active in groups, and of that small percentage of forum users, most people have joined the group. Just because every single user on this site isn't coming to the forums to complain doesn't mean you can thereby assume they like the layout. There's no real connection there. They could absolutely despise it, but they're not using the site's forums and may not even be aware of the forums, or they don't use the site as often as some of us. I know plenty of people who are registered on this site and only check it every few months, or have completely abandoned their accounts.

All i would say is you can be a heavy user of last fm without being a heavy user of groups and forums. So all you can claim to know is that 10000 of the types of users who tend to join groups don't like it.....if you can even say that with dupe accounts and whatnot :P

I'm noticing a lot of people despising the spamming of that group much more then they despise the new site anyway :P

"Just get over it people, it reminds me of the same amount of bitching during the 2000 presidential elections."

Oh my god. I can't believe you would want to draw comparisons between this situation and the 2000 elections. You might as well compare it to the holocaust if you want to mistakenly demonize it.

Just. The insinuations.. I want to give you a chance to retract that.

For anyone who wants to see this site gently cradled into the grave of a quirky social networking site, you can never understand what's wrong. You may disagree, but you already branch away from the rest of us at a core principle and we could never possibly convince eachother of anything.

The new layout is complete shit. Give me the old one back please.

There was no need to fix what wasn't that horribly broken. And this new version is horribly broken.

As an occasional site visitor, the redesign makes it even more annoying to get to the information I want to look at...so I'll probably visit it even less often.

The very first thing I did was go to preferences to see what I could turn off or change, and since the answer to that was pretty much nothing, I was ticked. Then I found that I wasn't the only one.

A week later, little has changed. Radio still doesn't work, navigating the site is like trying to walk through a maze amongst various other problems, and I have yet to see the Last.fm staff respond to any of the problems and criticism that's been said lately.

Both my desktop and laptop crapped out ten days ago, and I've only just been able to get my laptop somewhat running (due to the previous hard drive failing on me). Since the current hard drive I threw in is only 40GBs, I don't have the space to put on my music collection.

I'm not going to go into much of a rant. I'm simply going to point out that these changes has really upset a lot of users. Myself more so, simply because I don't have access to my music collection at the moment, and was expecting to be able to depend on my personal radio for an alternative.

I can't speak for everyone else, but until this site isn't a broken mess, I'm done paying to be a subscriber after this current subscription runs out. It's not worth the $3.

I wonder if the original owner who got that 290mil actually had the heart to give all the staff a small amount of money..say 100k for their work rather than playing Scrooge and keeping it all to himself.
