Exact Audio Copy (EAC for short) is a free software that can be used to extract tracks from an Audio CD to your computer's hard disk. What makes EAC special compared to other rippers is the fact that it is capable of reading audio CDs almost perfectly. EAC uses various methods for extracting audio data.     Pardon me for the triple, here. I left out the primary point i wanted to share with the reader. EAC is an excellent tool for anyone who is uncertain of the capabilities of his / her drive. EAC will scan and determine precisely what are the best settings for optimal results, depending upon your media and device. (whereas IsoB___ , i don't think, does that). The discerning user might also try http://www.optidrivecontrol.com/ for even more detailed data on the capabilities of the device / media combo as well. Best wishes, and many thanks to the EAC team. Please do not misconstrue my commentary below as anything of /bashing/ the EAC. It's not my meaning, or intent at all. Just trying to share some experience from a technical point of view.     ...In other words: Exact Audio Copy == Best, One-stop solution (PC platform?) for the audiophile wishing to archive his/ her CDDA collection, complete with Artist, Track, Date (and more, ISBN, etc) data-- the original data (and more, sometimes) will be present in an archive, while digital audio is also as the original (see stats, mucho available at EAC site). Are you doing a /large/ collection of CD's? 100's, 1,000's, or more? go EAC. However, if you hit a snag on that old New Bohemians disc you bought back in 1987, chances are-- cry a tear on the scratch for luck-- and IsoB__ just might dig the digital out for you anyway! Good luck ya'll. (for the record-- i found this node, looking to download EAC for myself!! and, yes, i have IsoB___ already... hehehe)

    Once upon a time, I did wholeheartedly buy-into the EAC shtick, swore by it, and advertised it to friends, until diminishing results (likely attributable to hardware failure due to compounding cigarette tar, etc) led to my own diminishing faith. I apologize for the committed EAC team, for i have neither the equipment, nor patience to conduct the qualitative analysis owed EAC, that I might say what follows. Consider the time invested, as @Vaelt.... alludes to imprint a proper archive. I offer an anecdotal challenge that IsoBuster will archive original media /at least/ as well as EAC, while achieving such a result-- often-- in a mere fraction of the time endured in using EAC. Please NOTE however, as EAC is designed to ease in the archival of the audiophiles' collections with automatic FreecdDB Metadata sync (incl Artist, Year, Album, Etc), IsoBuster, conversely, [in free mode] has a singular focus: extract the binary data from disc(A) to disc(B) [under /playing/ time; no burned motors]

    I love EAC. I had some EXTREMELY scratched up and non-playable Type O Negative CD's, but after 2 days of ripping, I had both those CD's on my computer with atleast 94% quality. :D
