    What can you recommend?

I like Arena, Marillion(both Fish and Hogarth's), Pendragon...
What can you recommend me to listen to? I'm trying to get Strangers On The Train, Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Shadowland. Are they worth of purchasing? What else?

Porcupine tree is definately worth purchasing. I'd say In Absentia was possibly the best album to date, so if you've never heard any, it's a great place to start. Spocks Beard are merely OK in my opinion, they've got some great pieces of music, but no single album which truly stands out. I havn't listened to either of the others.

    If you're looking to find a lot of new music, try insideout records for some good bands;

Thanx. I also found a portal called http://www.progressiveworld.net/artists.html. But the main problem is that in my country it is very hard to find good music...

I agree, Hypothetical is a great album. But looking at your profile, I bet you'd like Spock's Beard as well. Maybe you should listen to The Kindness of Strangers.

    IQ
Pallas (The Dreams of Men to start)
Saens (Somewhat new and little-know French band. My new favorite)
Strangefish (More in line to Yes than Genesis)
    Jadis

Definitely POrcupine Tree - though I prefer the latest album (Deadwing) over (the also great) In Absentia.

Spock's Beard peaked with Snow (IMHO) - more recent albums are good but check out what Neal Morse has done since going solo, especially the recent "?" album.

As a big Marillion fan, I also like Jadis, IQ, Arena...

You might want to try Enchant or Tiles both really cool bands and I agree with Porcupine Tree as a great band

I'm new in this group and come from the netherlands, home of ayreon, the aurora project and many more.
I think deadwing(PT) is agreat album and also photoplay(jadis) is great.
Also try riverside 's second life syndrom.
I'd to have personal mail contact with prog fans.

A.C.T. is totally worth of purchasing. I've listened many kinds of prog rock/metal and this is from the top. A.C.T. is kind of neo-progressive rock with space-age twist, but not quite Ayreon-like.

    Other nice prog rock bands:
    Spocks' Beard
    Transatlantic
    The Flower Kings
    The Tangent
    Shadow Gallery
    Frameshift
    Kaipa
    IQ

I promise you'll love these, if you like Pendragon, Marillion and so.

Although this might be a stretch, i'd suggest Van Der Graaf Generator. They are an outstanding 70s progressive rock band with more of an avant-gard feel and some great songwriting. The only album that i own currently of theirs is Pawn Hearts and i highly recommend it to any fan of progressive music with a relatively open mind.

Strangers On A Train was an interesting project for Clive Nolan, the first one of his to gain any prominence with the second album probably being the best.

Shadowland - Ring Of Roses is a great album. I saw them on that tour with Jadis and a great time was had by all.

Spock's Beard - certainly not the same band since Neal left, I was so disappointed that I walked out the last time I saw them in concert. 'Snow' is very probably their finest hour, but they haven't really released a bad one. Even now I get a kick from playing 'The Light'

Others that you should seriously consider, if you haven't already are:-

    Credo - Rhetoric
    Galahad - Nothing Is Written
IQ - Subterranea, or Dark Matter, or Ever, or just about anything!
Jadis - More Than Meets The Eye

The last new album that really made me sit up and take notice was Frost, absolutely superb.

They must be building death-camps in the garden

    Twelfth Night - 'Human Being'

If we talk neoprog, I’d recommend Attention Deficit, Liquid Tension Eperiment, and Bozzio Levin Stevens — all being sort of supergroups, side projects of big players in the scene. And pretty much anything published by Magna Carta label. Say, I liked Niacin, and Magellan a lot.

If you looking for heavier stuff, then aforementioned Insideout or The End Records labels. Latter has many interesting projects, ranging from “conventional” prog-metal, to some technical death metal and other extreme and experimental stuff. Age of Silence and Giant Squid look promising.

Also, very cool technical/progressive metal outfit — Alchemist, from Australia.

Also, just listen to tag radio here on Last.FM. I’ve found many kick ass bands while listening to it.

I don’t know where in Ukraine you live, but I’m sure this stuff should be available in large cities. I bought some of my stuff in “Purple Legion” in Moscow, and I’m sure you can find shops like that in Kiev, or, say, Donetsk.

All in all, while prog is definately the kind of music deserving to be legally bought, but also it’s relatively rare and off-mainstream, and needs to be popularized a bit, so steal away. :D

Definitely Gazpacho. Check out their last.fm group too: gazpacho. They are amazing! Most of their songs (if not all?) are streamable on last.fm. They made 4 albums since 1996. Their newest album "Night" was just released. Do yourself a favour. Listen to them. I'd recommend starting with the first album "Bravo" or the last "Night".

Check out Everon, very impressive neoprogressive rock/metal-band!
    Check them out here!

Also, check out Sylvan, especially their 2006 release Posthumous Silence, a brilliant concept album from one of the most interesting new neoprogressive groups.
    Check them out here!
