  I saw the Pixies on their first US tour (1988?/1989? - can't remember) at a small club in Long Beach, California. I had the Surfer Rosa album, but had never seen a picture of the band before seeing them live. I expected emaciated musicians with black-dyed hair, and was surprised by their appearance. Joey Santiago seemed barely able to control his guitar and amp, hovering and positioning his body in such a way as to negate the blasts of feedback that would flood the room if he turned toward his amp. Black Francis, sweaty, pale, doughy, and balding, was an unlikely front man. "Mrs. John Murphy" smiled her way through the entire set, looking as if she was astounded by the positive audience reaction. I count this performance as one of the top ten live shows I've ever seen - the power, sound, surprise and fully-formed concept of the band was astonishing.

  hey, I am going to watch Pixies on Oct 6 at Brixton Academy. Now that being BRIXTON, I desperately need some group or people to go with for the concert. Anyone on this forum heading out?
