Electro house, electroclash, breakbeat, nu rave, electrorock, dubstep is NOT electro.

Electro does not mean electronic.

Electro house, electroclash, electropop, breakbeat, nu rave, 8-bit, glitch etc.
is NOT electro.
Electro is a seperate genre. It just happens to share the word 'electro' with other genre names.

E.g. Electropop is not a subgenre of electro, it is not related to electro, it's short for "electronic pop"

Justice is not electro. Nor is Daft Punk. Crystal Castles, Digitalism, Steve Aoki, Uffie? Nope.

It is a common mistake made by a fairly large number of people. You might not even be aware that you're making a mistake.

ELECTRO does not mean ELECTRONIC.
It is not a synonym and it has never been. It may mean electronic when used in conjunction with another word, like electrop - electronic pop.

THIS is electro:

alin1, you're wrong. Electropop is short for "electronic pop" and is not a derivative form of the electro genre. Read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electropop

hey guys. ^^ i really have no fuckin clue about this electro/not electro disussion, but i really want to find out somethin about it. first question: (was too lazy to look up the linked artists) are beastie boys 'real' electro? what makes electro real? cuz obviously its not the usage of electronic elements. and also its not about the rhythm, i guess. so whats the thing that makes electro become electro? i know that there cant be exact definition, im used that from rock muic, espacially hardcore.... hardcore lovers are massively trolling of fake hardcore and things. -.-

@benharris because I'm tired of saying I like Daft Punk and people responding '.....so you like electro [or techno] right?' It's annoying as hell when trying to talk to people, or organizing music. I have 10 genre tags in iTunes for the same damn artist.

@benharris16: I understand that's a rhetorical question, as you've posted it on a wall of a group devoted to the subject. Anyway, you can ask any electro (I mean real electro) artist, they complain about it a lot.
