Why the huge love or Windowlicker?

I don't think it's so much loved, but probably appears popular because it was one of the more commercially promoted singles/EPs. Same case with Come to Daddy. In my opinion neither can really be classified as "typical Aphex Twin", which makes me think a large majority of the listeners aren't really RDJ fans as such. Not saying fans don't listen to those two tracks, but the reason why they've been bolstered up onto the top 20 list is probably because they have additional support from people who aren't normally Aphex Twin listeners.

It's the videoclips that made the songs that popular. Chris Cunningham did some awesome work there. Both clips were definately inviting to watch again. And again. And maybe show your friends. And their parents. And the dog. And your girlfriend: "No your behind isnt that big, no you dont have that much hair on your face...".

Come To Daddy and Windowlicker are two totally different songs, but that goes for RDJ's whole oevre: each album is really different from the other and that why he just can't bore me ;].

it is because it is the most popular... Considering there's a video for it, and that the video has been allowed on the MTV network.

Most people who like this perticular track are not open-minded enough to enjoy his other works, even though they may be a hell of a lot better.. It's just the way it is. - Majority of people only like simple music, the music they can predict, if any of those typical expectations they have on any track they listen to doesn't arise, they blow it off as "wierd".

Windowlicker's definitely if not most popular then among most popular
Aphex's songs. Many people who like Windowlicker are definitely some
mainstream fanatics that actually have no real interest in aphex twin, because if they do they would know that Windowlicker's, although cool song, not as good as his other stuff. They saw video on MTV and/or probably heard stuff on radio and then:"OMG, it's some new cool R&B"
I love it!" Windowlicker's definitely awesome and I love it no matter what, and video too, but isn't his best song. Everyone who heard at least 2 or 3 albums of Aphex will agree.

come to daddy i think expresses a wide range of what rdj does. it has the acid tracks, teh ambient track, the smashed up messy tracks. it's loved not because of it's advertisement and stuff, but because it's so fucking good. it's definately one of my favorites.

I consider myself fairly versed in RDJ and while I agree Windowlicker's popularity is what it is because of it's mainstream airplay/suitability, that in no means takes away in it's strengths as a song. While it isn't typical Aphex, it is by no means bad because of that, or beacuse of it's popular acceptance. It's a fantastic song, first one I heard, and one of my favourites even now.

in my opinion both come to daddy and windowlicker have really strong commercial sounds,
as for come to daddy it's that "darkparty" feeling or chaos or horror thing that caught peoples ears (at least that's what all ppl said I asked)
and windowlicker definitely has something ambient calm-like which is just awesome for "notaphexed"-people, same with me when I first heard it and a lot of people told me the same too
as already said by others, the videos got popular too (and are actually more interesting than the songs themselves...)

I have to admit, they aren't my favorite songs either... but it's all about commercialism...
I wouldn't dare saying that they get more hype than they deserve because it depends, we're still individual (at least I hope so)
it also depends whether you understand such kind of music or not, there are people crying while listening to grindcore (and not because of the pain in their ears xD)

since I make music myself I know if I'd release stuff that I like myself best, I would never get into business (and that's why I've released one song I just think is quite okay for me but received awesome feedback by others) because the simpler and less expressing music is, the easier people like it because they don't need to get used to it first, people also like clearly structured and beat-connected music, but as individuals we can listen to everything we want if we patiently listen...

as I said it's just my opinion...
