Car Bomb vocalist Michael Dafferner will premiere his independent film [why_you_do_this] next week at the Queens World Film Festival. This world premiere will be on Friday, March 4th at 7:00pm EST at The Renaissance Auditorium (81st Street & 37th Ave) in Jackson Heights, NY. [why_you_do_this] is a feature-length documentary about money, touring, and technical metal. The film features interviews with members of Lamb of God, Gojira, Goatwhore, Charred Walls of the Damned, The Chariot, Bella Morte, Last Chance to Reason and Car Bomb. Car Bomb has been writing for the follow-up album to their debut full-length Centralia. Writing and recording updates will be posted shortly.

This is me once again trying to define musical genres, especially the ones that are in some way called dark.

My interest in melancholic, somber, and even tragic tunes has grown since childhood. On Last.fm I look for music that fits this taste of mine, but I noticed I do not perform an specific search for one simple reason: I can't easily label music. This difficulty may be explained by the fact that many bands mix different kinds of music together, being it hard to define what is purely post-punk, gothic rock, new wave, darkwave, ethereal, cold wave (coldwave)...

I wish I could understand this better.

B-CZAR: How did you meet Gopal?

ANDY: We were basically the only two kids in town listening to goth and mutual friend introduced us by giving me Gopal's phone number. I called and we've been like brothers since.

B-CZAR: Describe your dream girl.

ANDY: Mohawk. Southern accent. Not too tall.

B-CZAR: What's your kink?

ANDY: Hmmm... I don't have much of a kink. And if I did I wouldn't tell you, because it would be too digusting to print. ;)

B-CZAR: What do you think about Bush?

ANDY: Well, I don't think the guy has followed through on what he promised. I like the idea of reducing the size of the government and leaving more responsibility to individuals and I feel like he's implemented one new spending venture after another... But I'd choose him over Kerry.

B-CZAR: What's your favorite Bella Morte song and why?

ANDY: That changes all the time! Right now it's a new tune called "The Forgotten"…

B-CZAR: What literary character do you most relate to?

GOPAL: Oh, that's tough. I think I relate a little bit to quite a few. I'm quite fond of Severian from Gene Wolfe's Book of the New Sun, and in a god like sort of way, Azrarn from Tanith Lee's Tales from the Flat Earth. But I can't really say I truly relate to either of them; more that I would like to exist in their worlds.

B-CZAR: In your interview with Dark Velvet (issue 1, fall 1998), Gopal referred to your music as "very, very, fairy tale." What's your favorite fairytale?

GOPAL: I don't suppose I have one. I just generally like the older German or Norse myths and ghost stories. I love me some Goblins! Pretty much anything with a Goblin or Gremlin wreaking havoc, I'm good with.

B-CZAR: In the same interview with Dark Velvet, Gopal also said "We've written a lot of ghost stories, a lot of haunting. That's a big thing about us, is haunting." Have you ever had a paranormal experience?

This is just a list I've been adding to (and not taking away from) for ages now, of bands I've decided at the time deserved a place on it. Looking at some of them now, there are a few I hardly like at all any more, so it's not 100% representative of my taste, but neither are my overall charts. Perhaps they balance eachother.
