Judas Priest — британская рок-группа, которая наряду с такими коллективами как Black Sabbath, Deep Purple и Led Zeppelin, определила звучание метала 1970-х годов, а также оказала огромное влияние на дальнейшее развитие этого стиля в целом. За 40 лет своей карьеры музыканты продали свыше 35 миллионов копий альбомов по всему миру.

Основателями группы и её бессменными участниками являются гитарист Кеннет Даунинг и бас-гитарист Йен Хилл. «Классический» состав Judas Priest, который также включает вокалиста Роба Хэлфорда и гитариста Гленна Типтона, с перерывом в 1993—2003 годах, когда группу покинул Хэлфорд, просуществовал 25 лет. Нестабильным звеном коллектива всегда являлось место барабанщика (за 38 лет существования в группе сменилось 8 ударников). В настоящее время (2010 год) в составе Judas Priest играет барабанщик Скотт Трэвис.

Название группы является эвфемизмом эмоционального восклицания «Jesus Christ!» (русск. Господи Иисусе!). Идея назвать коллектив именно так появилась благодаря песне Боба Дилана «The Ballad Of Frankie Lee And Judas Priest» (1967).

Годом основания группы считается 1968 год, местом - Бирмингем, Великобритания.

Раннее время
История Judas Priest неразрывно связана с именами двух её отцов-основателей — Кеннета Даунинга и Йена Хилла, двух школьных приятелей, которые увлекались игрой на гитаре, но узнали о музыкальных пристрастиях друг друга лишь после смерти их общего кумира — Джимми Хендрикса. Друзья решили совместно создать музыкальный коллектив, пригласив на вакантное место барабанщика ещё одного школьного приятеля — Джона Эллиса.

I was talking about musical variation i never compared them to the Beatles.And Zeppelin are among the top ten selling artist of all time,if that matters.
