Stay What You Are is in no way their last good album, In Reverie might take some adjustment to enjoy, but once your drop preconceptions as to what Saves the Day SHOULD sound like, you'll find In Reverie to be a very listenable album, and songs like In My Waking Life (especially the Bug Sessions acoustic version), In Reverie, and Anywhere With You (acoustic b-side from the 7 promo) still amaze me.

I wasn't saying STD shouldn't be tagged as emo.. I just think it shouldn't be the most popular tag. When people don't know a band, they look at how people describe them. So now, what'd you think of a band which is emo? Some prefer emo music because they think yes.. life sucks, let's cut myself; some hate emo because they are so annoying The extremes the word emo brings don't do STD good.

Why is At Your Funeral a guilty pleasure? Just because it's really popular? It's a great song, man, no need to feel guilty.

It's rather sad how many bands are wrongly classified under the emo tag. Early Saves The Day was more in the vein of melodic hardcore (pretty much they ripped off Lifetime but did an amazing job). Stay What You are was the last good album they released if you discount Ups & Downs

my point is that i think a lot of bands have co-opted the sound of groups like saves the day and people are finally realizing that these guys were good. . . so now we've got carbon copies via MTV. . . boring. . . emo. . . whatever. saves the day is great. i grew up on them, and i'm just glad they're stirring up some talk on the internet. . .haha

i usually just ignore the whole emo argument. but i really like saves the day. so . . .i'm 22, when i was in HS emo as a term wasnt nearly as big as it is now. the get up kids, SDRE, and saves the day were just . . . indie bands, almost a post post punk thing if you will. . .

I always saw STD's earlier stuff as a kind of punk revival, though you could say it's emo because of the emotional content of the lyrics, the tempo and style of the music parallels early punk. They did inspire many of the popular emo bands that are big now. Pete Wentz from FOB was quoted as saying he was inspired by Through Being Cool. Either way you look at it Saves The Day is fucking awesome.

actually, the label emo hasn't made such a prominent conversation topic this past year. now, it's pop punk and how that trend has changed throughout the main music scene.

you're all idiots. every album that saves the day has released, there have been different members of the band. seriously, every song is different than the other. you can't label that. and Nobodylikesyou makes fine points, really. though, he's a n00b because he got into STD through the new album.

I dunno what I'd call them. My friends call them shitty but all they listen to is Bob Dylan, who I don't hate but like either. I guess I could accept the whole EMO label but I don't really like labeling music beyond artist/album/song title. The problem is Saves The Days style varies between albums, especially the two newest ones. Titles, I think, make people judge before listening. Not good!

Well...Nobodylikesyou that would be a good argument except The Beatles are one of the most critically acclaimed musical groups ever. If someone has not heard of them that would be a surprise. On the other hand a lot of people are not familiar with Saves The Day. I was just trying to be a dick to you, I wasn't out to make much of a point. I think labeling music genres is pretty dumb.

Nobodylikesyou....are you serious? You're sixteen, you were probably still wearing diapers when these guys started to get big. Half of your kids were like under 10 years old at that point. I'm pretty young at 20 but at least I didn't need a baby sitter when I went to my first STD show. I'm not dissing the young people here, just the young people who are talking smack.

saves the day is actually New Jersey hardcore, or they were when they came out. if you know anything about the New Jersey scene, you should know that

saves the day is closer to emo than a lot of other crap like MCR. the focus was more on lyrics on older albums but on IR and STA there are some nice guitar riffs.

i don't understand what most of you are talking about. saves the day doesn't have a weak effort. every album is absolutely fantastic and solid in its own way. they've grown as people and as a band, so it's only natural that the music reflects that. sure, a track off of In Reverie isn't going to sound like a track off Can't Slow Down, but you still know from which heart and mouth the words came.
