os_teriyaki's top albums (3 months) 1. Sonata Arctica - Unia (544)

Current Top 3: My Dream's but a Drop of Fuel for a Nightmare; Fly with the Black Swan; The Vice
My highest-ranking album and deservedly so :'D Unia is currently my favouritest of all albums, a truly unique and special album in an already spectacular Sonata Arctica history :'D I love the sound, and what the album represents. No matter what you think of this album, Sonata would *not* exist without it :P
2. Sonata Arctica - The Days of Grays (530)
Current Top 3: Deathaura; In My Eyes You're A Giant; As If The World Wasn't Ending
You'd think, maybe, that after six months some of the novelty would have worn off. Apparently not! I guess this is really just a masterpiece after all! ;D Unia beats it by the tiniest of tiny amounts. Days is so good to listen through all in one go as well... just LOVE >w<
3. Elias Viljanen - Fire-Hearted (461)
Current Top 3: Kiss of Rain; Fire-Hearted; Up to Speed
I do not have words to express how much I love this album. This will always be special to me because every time I listen to it, Elias' stellar guitar work just gives me such a good feeling. The man has such talent, and his good heart just reaches out through his songs to give me the feeling, "You can do it!"
4. Sonata Arctica - Silence (352)
5. Sonata Arctica - Winterheart's Guild (312)
6. Sonata Arctica - Ecliptica (301)
7. Sonata Arctica - Reckoning Night (285)
Current Top 3: (Reckoning Day, Reckoning Night/)Don't Say a Word; Wrecking the Sphere; White Pearl, Black Oceans
8. Tarot - Shining Black (disc 2) (220)
Current Top 3: State of Grace; Warhead; The Punishment
Got this for Christmas from my parents and I LOVE LOVE LOVE >w< Some of my all-time favourite Tarot songs are from this album. I'm definitely going to have to go through the back-catalogue properly... ;)
9. Sydänpuu - Sydänpuu (217)
Current Top 3: Suojassa; Hautaa Minut Tänään; Kahleet
Jani, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come back to studio and record the album!! T__T I love Sydänpuu but even I have to admit that listening to the same (admittedly awesome) six songs over and over is getting a tad tedious now T__T
(And I hate having to admit that ;___; *loves Jani*)
10. Versailles - Jubilee (175)
Current Top 3: Sound in Gate; Catharsis; Reminiscence
Ohmygod. Best new release of the season? Quite possibly. It's a close call (see below). Versailles have never let me down so far and they didn't disappoint with JUBILEE. Took me a few days, maybe, to really appreciate it, but then I was just blown away by the perfection. A fitting tribute to Jasmine.
11. Tarot - Shining Black (disc 1) (174)
Current Top 3: Midwinter Nights; Guardian Angel; Rose on the Grave
The other half of Shining Black >w< I love this too, and I'm surprised it's so far behind the second disc, but I guess (besides having fewer tracks) Marco's voice is slighlty less kick-ass in these earlier early days xD
12. Sonata Arctica - Takatalvi (173)
Current Top 3: Dream Thieves; Fade to Black; San Sebastian
I think Sonata are psychically connected to me. I think how it might be interesting for Tony to do a solo album - and he talks about a potential future solo project. I think how I would really love another new DVD - and they talk about plans to release one at the start of 2011. And I start yearning for the Japan-only release, Takatalvi, to have for my own -
And they re-release it for the whole world, complete with Orientation EP as bonus tracks :D And if I was happy hearing that news, I was even happier having the CD in my hands, pouring over the sleeve notes by Tony. GOD I love that man!!
13. Finntroll - Nifelvind (154)
Current Top 3: Under Bergets Rot; Den Frusna Munnen; Galgasång
Yeah. You see, this is why it's hard to decide which is my favourite release of this season ;) Nifelvind just blew. me. away :D Absolutely love it, so much - so full of spirit, dark yet fantastical, a vaguely Danny Elfman-like feel to it as well. And I just love Finntroll. That's it ;D
14. Brother Firetribe - Heart Full of Fire (151)
15. Pain - Psalms Of Extinction (146)
Current Top 3: Does It Really Matter?; Here is the News; Play Dead
Finally got this for Christmas :) I really like the sound of this album (probably more than Cynic Paradise), especially the tracks that remind me of Rachet & Clank and Crash Bandicoot xD
16. Versailles - Noble (144)
17. Finntroll - Ur Jordens Djup (109)
Current Top 3: Korpens Saga; Nedgång; En Mäktig Här
Why the hate for this album? D: I just don't understand it! I bought Ur Jordens Djup about two months ago and I absolutely adore it. I love listening to it loud & in the dark, having my own personal wrong-time-of-year Halloween ;D Awesome stuff!!
18. Tarot - Suffer Our Pleasures (105)
19. Versailles - Lyrical Sympathy (105)
20. Mental Care Foundation - Alcohol Anthems (101)
Current Top 3: Headtrip; Alone; Unpredicted
Yes, you guessed it. Or maybe you didn't ;D I bought this album about a month ago because my dearest Sonata keyboardist, Henkka Klingenberg, provides the vocals for this album ;D I seriously bought this not expecting to like it too much (just wanted to support Henkka in everything; I am way too much of a fan of his xDD) but I actually really love it! Very nice and raw, and aggressive.
21. Silent Voices - Building Up the Apathy (99)
Current Top 3: Once Lost Life; World's End; Distorted
Another album that's here because of my insane Henkka fandom ;D Although it's not just Henkka that makes me love this album anymore. I've totally fallen for this group, hard. Though the keyboard and guitar solos are still the highlight! ;D
22. Northern Kings - Rethroned (97)
Current Top 3: Take On Me; Róisín Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend; My Way
You put my two favourite vocalists, Tony Kakko and Marco Hietala, in the same group and I am GOING to love it :'D I bought this about a month ago and I ado-o-ore it :'D So much fun, really fucking stupid, but certain songs are really amazing... And Tony's vocals on Take On Me? "Say after me: it's no better to be safe than sorry!" *heartgasm*
23. Sonata Arctica - For the Sake of Revenge (97)
Current Top 3: The Cage/Vodka/Hava Nagila [Live]; Broken [Live]; FullMoon[Live]
I normally don't like live albums so much but what do you know: Sonata have the midas touch I guess ;D Got this for Christmas and, well, let's just say it's a good thing the DVD itself doesn't scrobble or this album would have at least twice the number of plays, eeeeasily :P *loves these boys*
24. Nicholas Hooper - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (96)
25. Dir en grey - Withering to death. (96)
Current Top 3: KODOKU NI SHISU, YUENI KODOKU; ITOSHISA HA FUHAI NITSUKI; HIGEKI HA MABUTA WO OROSHITA YASASHIKI UTSU
26. Finntroll - Nattfödd (95)
27. Finntroll - Jaktens Tid (93)
Current Top 3: Kitteldags; Födosagan; Tomhet Och Tystnad Härska (Outro)
I was all prepared to say that I don't get the love for this album, but... well, I still don't *really* see it, but it is growing on me, I'll admit ;) Another recent buy (I went quite a bit crazy with Finntroll these season, such a damn shame I couldn't see them live >_<)
28. Dir en grey - UROBOROS (91)
29. Dir en grey - VULGAR (87)
30. Tarja - My Winter Storm (84)
Current Top 3: Seeking for the Reign/The Reign; Sing for Me; Oasis
I've been listening to Tarja quite a bit lately because following her studio blog has made me pretty excited for her *next* album...
31. Sonata Arctica - The Days of Grays [Orchestral CD] (83)
Current Top 3: As If The World Wasn't Ending [Orchestral Version]; In The Dark [Orchestral Version]; The Last Amazing Grays [Orchestral Version]
32. Tarot - Crows Fly Black (82)
33. Pain - Cynic Paradise (81)
34. Dark Moor - The Hall of the Olden Dreams (81)
Current Top 3: Silver Lake; Maid of Orleans; Bells of Notre Dame
I LOVE LOVE LOVE DARK MOOR :'D I never thought I'd say that, I used to think they were a complete waste of time, but this is the album that made me see. They have something really special about them, as long as you don't try to take them too seriously :P This is my overall favourite Dark Moor album.
35. Dark Moor - Autumnal (75)
Current Top 3: Phantom Queen; On the Hill of Dreams; Fallen Leaves Waltz
Probably my third favourite DM album. Alfred-era DM really lack some of the energy and spark of Elisa-era, but they make up for it (especially on this album) with lovely orchestrations and overall sound.
36. Fairyland - Score To A New Beginning (73)
Current Top 3: Score to a New Beginning; Rise of the Giants; Opening Credits
I think this was the first album I bought in 2010, actually. And it's very good; vocals are strong, musicianship is good, and I really like the way that (for once) this concept album has a story you can actually follow. Until you hit Rise of the Giants, that is, and they used a total deus ex machinae to wrap up their story xD But by then you don't care, because the music is so good :P
37. John Williams - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (71)
38. Dark Moor - The Gates of Oblivion (70)
Current Top 3: Nevermore; The Night of the Age; By the Strange Path of Destiny
Elisa is soooo good here x) This is my second favourite Dark Moor album.
39. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra - The Essential Harry Potter Film Music Collection Disc 1 (66)
Current Top 3: The Prisoner of Azkaban Suite; Double Trouble; Reunion of Friends
I'm so happy that Chrissi got this for Christmas :'D It's a lovely double album, often feeling "more Harry Potter" than the actual OSTs. The underproduction and consistent sound draws the disparate compositions together in an utterly enjoyable way :)
40. HIM - Dark Light (62)
Current Top 3: In the Nightside of Eden; Killing Loneliness; Drunk on Shadows
Where the hell did HIM come from, eh? ;D Years ago I wrote them off as boring, nothing special about them at all. In a way, I kind of still stand by that xD BUT this is such a lovely album if you want to wind down and relax. There are some gorgeous techno-ambient moments.
(Valo, I'm still sorry for chapter 12... Lanceland readers will know what I'm talking about this time next week ;D)
41. Kamelot - The Black Halo (62)
42. Sonata Arctica - Successor (60)
Current Top 3: San Sebastian; Shy; Still Loving You
Now a dead album, since all the Successor tracks are included on Takatalvi.
43. Kamelot - Epica (59)
44. Dark Moor - Beyond the Sea (57)
Current Top 3: (Through the Gates of the Silver Key/)The Silver Key; Houdini's Great Escapade; Vivaldi's Winter
One of several Dark Moor albums for which there are two or three songs I can go "Yes, I really fucking love that song" and completely live without all of the rest. Inconsistency is the name of the game, post-Elisa >__<
45. Kamelot - Ghost Opera (56)
Current Top 3: Solitaire/Rule the World; Mourning Star; EdenEcho
I love this album now more than I ever have before. I'm not sure why I was so unfair on it before... but in any case, I'm looking forward to the next Kamelot release :) Whenever they actually decide to release it ^__^;;
46. Dark Moor - Dark Moor (55)
Current Top 3: Return for Love (Attila); Philip, The Second; The Dark Moor
The first album with Alfred. I do like that guy ^__^
47. Stewart Copeland - Spyro The Dragon OST - Disc 1 (55)
48. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra - The Essential Harry Potter Film Music Collection Disc 2 (54)
49. Nightwish - Dark Passion Play (49)
Current Top 3: The Poet and the Pendulum; The Islander; 7 Days to the Wolves
Holy shit. That's actually scary how close Nightwish came to not having an album in my top 50 this season @__@ This used to be my favourite album of all time... well anyway, this is still a masterpiece and a structural delight, even if the content can get a little boring sometimes.
50. Dark Moor - Tarot (48) And remember: be metal, but for god's sake don't be trve! ;D
