@gulsch92 @ikarus999: what do you mean? I really can't see any irony in those words. Or do you think that it's a threat of force as to USSR? It doesn't seem like that to me because both of superpowers were aware of the doctrine of "mutual assured destruction". The whole situation and possible consequences of nuclear war were clear so any threat would be pointless.

as a Russian, I despise this song and the damn line about children. and most definitely he should NOT perform this song in Russia. yet he does. then again, people here go nuts about fucking "Wind Of Change".

Despite my political opinion about Russia, I love this song. This is why music unites the world while politics split it.

Good song reminds in Modern context you can make it 'The Egyptians love there children to' or more 'the Muslims love there children to' .... Some people seem to forgot that actually ...

Very interesting how many people miss the point. Perhaps you should all read the Lyrics very carefully, and then think about it.

This song is beautiful, and kind of creepy considering the fact that at the time the Russians could destroy the whole world.

Musically too awesome to have been made by mankind. Anyway, ecchipiro, you didn't understand the lyrics. When Sting used Prokofjevs theme (which is often used to express winter, low temperatures, ice, etc.), he tried to bring together the first and second world. The missing communication between the USA and the USSR in the Cold War is the reason, why Sting thinks that the russians were not considered humans by the Western world. But...think about that - he thinks, that there is no real threat, because the "russians love their children too". Think about that with your modern knowledge: This was damn naive! Lyrically, this one was messed up.

Kind of ironic that he used a Russian composer's work, and then sings "I hope the Russians love their children, too", as if they were the only bad guys. As if the commoners in the Soviet Union had many choices when it came to their regime. Then again, Sting is brilliant; he may have done it on purpose, to get people to think. Great song.

my fave of Sting..I loved that one so much.It reminds me of cold war times and of cold winter times in 1985.It was a snowy and icy time as like we have in this winter 25 years further on..

Scary to think how relevant this song continues to be to this day...Different players, different weapons (e.g. biological stuff)...who would have thought back in the 70's and 80's some idiots would put 3 full planes through a building? Let's hope EVERY country in the world loves their children enough to de-escalate in time!

I can remember the mood of those times oh so well. Being a child in the 70s I resemble real ANGST when seeing American (or Sowjet) polticians in the TV. This song describes the feeling well that many of us had back then when thinking of the USA or USSR
