thanks. We envy the more popular countries (Aus, USA, Europeans) bc they get more concerts.

New album from the Manawatu; mostly a mix of prog/art rock, minimalism, post-punk, thrash/progressive metal and ambient. https://chastisement.bandcamp.com It's free to download, cheers.

Whoever said new zealand music is bad is a fool. We have amazing indie rock, a thriving dnb scene, our dubstep and house is a bit obvious and filthy a lot of the time, but theres a few gems here and there. We have an awesome punk and hardcore scene. Decent hip-hop, which is getting better all the time, some amazing underground hip-hop artists coming up. Lots of rad noise music, stoner metal, some cool jazz musicians. if u think that new zealand music is all gin wigmore and dei hamo, then u have some digging to do, im sorry

tagging countries is useful if you want to find more music from that area. Not silly at all.

I really like the country tags. Just a quick way to find some popular bands from a specific country! And indeed, tags and genres aren't the same thing.

Boooooooooooooooooo! I don't think it IS about similar artists I think it's about tagging however YOU find most helpful New Zealand, Sweden, Korea - wherever - it's ALL good You can find MUSIC from a country or a nationality Don't be such a downer!

Yet another stupid tag (and yes I'm an Aussie *wait's for inevitable booing*) but tagging Australian Artists as Australian/ Aussie/Oz is just as stupid... why you may ask... because it's not exactly a musical genre now is it. Besides I can always pick you 7th stater's by those funny accents :P. It's not about National credit for artists that are already yours, it's about people wanting to hear similar artists and the accent doesn't make two bands any more similar.

I understand this tag. If I'm talking about a band from NZ I make a point to mention they are from NZ because this music is way too underrated. NZ is a breeding ground for good music. It's also an obscure country to people from North America so it gets indie cred...

Hi everyone, I'm working for a Dutch website about New Zealand, and we are currently working on a story about music from New Zealand. Can you anyone give me some advice on New Zealand music, like: who are the 'classic' New Zealand musicians (ie. music every Kiwi knows), who are the best new artists and who are the best traditional musicians (like Maori-style music)? Thanks in advance for your advice, bye Maarten.
