I just had an epiphany of how fucking much I hate Katy Perry. I Kissed A girl was an OK song, but every single other single I've heard by her has been bad, reaching an epitome of suck with Firework, which has to have the absolute worst lyrics ever written.

I noticed if you search "Neurosis logo" in google images, the Cormorant logo comes up. You've made it big.

That's what I call good news :) I hope the new album gets some melodies like hanging gardens!

I am not really a big Burzum fan so doesn't matter much to me. Not the style of black metal that I can get into.

Good to hear. Yeah I'm on FB so I'll have to check that out. I've been listening to Metazoa again recently and was thinking I really needed to see if anything new was going on. Thanks.

Hey hope you had a happy Thanksgiving yesterday man. I haven't been on the 235 board in forever so I was wondering what you and Cormorant have been up to. Any new songs or albums or anything?

I certainly hope you do...You and Sacha Dunable are the only two columnists who are worth reading.

I'm just kinda discovering it now (despite listening to blues-driven stoner rock/metal for years) and damn it is really awesome stuff. Even the music from the 1930s is real cool!

Thanks a lot for the recs! Havent listened to a lot of these, actually the only one ive listened to was Manilla Road, which despite the annoying vocals have some great riffs and are often quite reminiscent of Iron Maiden. Gonna check out Crimson Glory, Satan, and Running Wild for now. As thanks for the recs, ill recommend you Dark Fortress - Ylem. Imo its one of 2010's best black metal albums so far and I think you would enjoy it. If you need any death or black metal recs just leave me a shout. But it looks like you already get plenty of suggestions :P

Cheers dude, I got a question for you since you have an ear for good music (imo). Im looking for some exceptional heavy metal albums and was wondering if you had a few suggestions on what was essential. I prefer musicianship over catchy choruses, nothing to glam rock-esque, and thoughtfully progressive passages are a plus. I favor stuff like early Mercyful Fate and King Diamond, Iron Maiden (s/t and Killers), and Sanctuary, so I usually like it kind of dark with an exceptional vocalist if possible. Though I also thoroughly enjoy stuff like Cirith Ungol, early Fates Warning, and Hammers of Misfortune (and if you consider Voivod's Killing Technology heavy metal, that too). Angel Witch is an example of the type of stuff I like to avoid. Sorry to ask you such a loaded question, but your charts indicate you really know your stuff and I would appreciate your insight.

sounds rough, thanks for the answer though man. you wrote an article on the cost right? couldn't seem to find it or even remember what site it was on. and bringing up bootleg clothes lol, i think the coolest shirt i got is a screen-printed blue old AtG logo i found in seattle last year.

got a question that i'd appreciate an answer from someone who's worked with music: how do you feel about the whole "i'll see em live" download-justifying? ain't touring pretty expensive to begin with?

That's a shame. ItP is amazing and I seem to keep coming back to it a lot. Its just so weird and insane and that's part of the reason I love it so fucking much right now :D And In The Woods... was amazing. I've looked them up and its sad they only recorded 3 albums :( At least I'll get to checking those 3 out, but I can definitely see why they influenced you, and now that I think about it I can hear their influence in Cormorant.
