Shoegaze/Dream Pop
"Shoegazing (also known as shoegaze) is a subgenre of alternative rock that emerged from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It lasted until the mid 1990s with a critical zenith reached in 1990 and 1991. The British music press—particularly NME and Melody Maker—named this style shoegazing because the musicians in these bands stood relatively still during live performances in a detached, introspective, non-confrontational state, hence the idea that they were gazing at their shoes. The heavy use of distortion pedals also contributed to the image of performers looking down at their feet (shoegazing) during concerts." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shoegaze

Christmas - the Bah Humbug mix
So this is Christmas? A mixture of traditional carols, Christmas songs old and new, plus a handful of tracks which happened to be UK hits at Christmas (but aren't really Christmassy as such). ANYWAY please feel free to send your missing favourite tracks RIGHT NOW - and thanks to Deniz, Fiona, Maire & Julia so far. PS: working hard to keep this a Neil Diamond free zone (twist my arm - bah humbug!)

More Sounds of my 1970s
Again, 200 tracks not enough! And of course I was listening to e.g. Yes (and Jon Anderson solo) and not ABWH at the time, but what can you do?

Neo-prog 2/Post-prog/New prog
As usual, 200 tracks was not enough - so I needed a Neo-prog 2 playlist. But I also started to see references to 'post-prog' and wondered what this was. According to Wikipedia: "New prog (occasionally referred to as "nu prog" or "post-prog"/"post-progressive") is a term used to describe a number of recent alternative rock bands who incorporate elements from progressive rock. Most notable bands described as new prog include: Coheed and Cambria, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mars Volta, Mew, Muse, Mystery Jets, Oceansize, Pure Reason Revolution, Karnivool, Secret Machines. The term in this sense is relatively new and other labels such as Post-prog have been suggested or used. The term has also been used for some earlier bands, like Radiohead. "New prog" has connections and overlap with the post-rock movement, but is distinct from the much earlier genre of neo-prog". Maybe I'll get around to splitting this Playlist eventually, but meanwhile I'm just going to have to mix it up... …

Good habits
OK, so that's a poor pun - but this is a collection of (what I think are) glorious chants, choral pieces and sacred music. A lot of it is 'real' religious music, a little is modern pastiche. But it must be my Catholic upbringing in the 1950s and 60s - I can still hear the latin and smell the incense!

Baroque, Classical & Romantic music
I'm not going to worry too much about these classifications, so it's quite possible that you'll find anything from medieval & renaissance music through to 20th/21st century classical here. However if you're looking for male or female monastic, or sacred choral or organ works, you might do better to look in my 'Good habits' playlist.
