Sat 15 May – Converge, Coalesce, Touche Amore, Black Breath

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING

First up was Black Breath. Not too much for me to say about them. They are decent. They seemed like just another hardcore band, but I'll reserve my judgement until I eventually give them an honest listen.

Followed by Black Breath was Touche Amore. I was so stoked to hear that they had replaced Lewd Acts. I mean, it's a bummer for Lewd Acts and fans, but I absolutely love Touche Amore and for me they kinda made up for the fact that Gaza was not there. Anyway, an amazing performance by them. I was skeptical at first and wasn't too sure if there were many fans in the audience. But then I was able to meet someone who just adored Touche Amore, and it was great to see people moving and singing along to their songs. Jeremy sure knows how to put on a show. How awesome was it when he screamed without a mic, but loud enough for everyone to hear? and his deep voice? Hilarious. Can't wait until they come around San Francisco again.

Next up was Coalesce. I had never listened to these guys until I learned about this tour back in February. I decided to start with OX. It was a pretty good album, but took a few spins to get into. Once I did though, I was hooked. Immediately got Functioning on Impatience and loved it. Now I was psyched to see another band on the bill. Their performance live is just relentless. The deep, crunchy sound they have on their albums packs an even heavier punch live. I was right in front of the guitarist the whole time, and watching him play was very interesting. He definitely has a unique style to his playing.

Coalesce ended their set, and next up was Converge. Just what I had been waiting for all night. Of course, I was not disappointed. They are such an amazing live band in my opinion. They opened up with Concubine and everyone just lost it, and that's how it continued throughout the rest of the show. I was right up in the front against the stage. It's fun to watch Bannon run around stage, who stepped on my hand quite a few times since I was against one of the amps, but it was all good. I had the time of my life, and I freaked out when they played Saddest Day. Wow, I couldn't believe it. It was more than a perfect way to end the night. Afterward, I scored a pick from Kurt and I got to say hi to Jake. Such a nice guy. Very humble and down to earth.

Overall, I'd have to say it was one of the best shows I had been to in a long time. I will never forget that night.
