That's sort of how I feel about the first My Dying Bride album. It has some great moments and songs, but there are some rather sub-par moments. Oh well, every death metal record can't be the best! Also, would you say that your favorite death metal albums are reflected on the DLA's "Best Death Metal albums", because you seem to have a taste for Scandinavia, at least from what I've seen of your charts.

What's your opinion on Gorement - The Ending Quest and Cemetary - An Evil Shade of Grey? Both seem like solid B to B + releases, in my opinion. Sort of re-stumbled upon them recently.

Sure their first couple of tracks sounded really good. I kind of know they are awesome lol

Umm I haven't heard much of them (shameful I know)... but you know what the co-incidence is ? I was planning on checking them out today. I got 4-5 albums of them yesterday and so when I return from school, I will check them out. I listened to a couple of tracks from their first album and they sounded kick ass!

I find ecofacism fascinating. There are also aspects of deep ecology I can definitely agree with, although I haven't read much into it. And I do need to check out more Ildjarn, currently I have Forest Poetry and Hardangervidda. The latter I fell in love with instantly, the former is slowly growing on me :D

Well, you certainly have all the usual tired insults of the Internet at your fingertips: witch hunts, and net cops, and the rest (though you haven't quite grasped the notion of "passive-aggressive"). I'll leave you to it, as adult discussion of the issue seems to be beyond you.

First, the image is the standard one for mistagged pages, not created by me. Secondly, your own messages started out accusatory and hostile, though I'm glad that things have calmed down. Thirdly, when I add a "mistagged" message and graphic, I also add or vote the correct form in the box (it rarely does anything). The only aliasing of which I'm aware is the box you can tick to correct your spellings to the standard form; none of the pages that I labelled "mistagged" had a set standard form. I didn't deal with any page that was already redirected to the standard form (as, for example, your beethoven scrobbles are). Is there some other feature of which I'm unaware? I've searched and found nothing. Personally I have the alias feature switched off; although I generally tag my music according the standard form here, even when I'd really prefer a different spelling or version of the name, they sometimes redirect the correct form to a clearly incorrect form.

In fact I've just checked, and a redirected page doesn't even show up if you search for it.

The only way that I can come across a page is when the redirection doesn't happen; when a page is redirected, it's redirected. I only label pages when they're not redirected. Loking at your stats, it's obvious that hal the time you've played Franz Berwald, and half the time you've played Berwald, Franz. -- that's nothing to do with me. Labelling a page consists in nothing more than altering the artist's biographical details; I've tested that on another redirected page, and it had no effect (which is what I expected). A page is redirected when a Last.fm admin redirects it, otherwise it isn't. Users can't affect that to the best of my knowledge. I suspect that what happened was that, by adding the red mistagged graphic, I simply drew your attention to the fact that one of or more of the pages wasn't redrecting, which you'd not noticed before.

What on Earth are you talking about? Nothing I can do as a user can change the way that Last.fm works; all I've done is label pages as mistagged when I find them, and add the "mistagged" graphic. You seem to be confused about the way that Last.fm works (or, mostly, doesn't work), about what I've done, and about the way things were before I edited some of the mistagged pages.

I'm afarid that I can't make sense of what you're saying. If most people tag an artist in the correct order, as for example "Franz Berwald", and a few people tag him as "Berwald Franz" (and others as "Franz_Berwald", and others as "Berwald_Franz", etc.), then the scrobbles are scattered. The only two ways to resolve the issue are, first, for people to follow a standard method of tagging, and secondly, for last.fm to redirect all the variants to one central page. As they can't be bothered to do that in most cases, the former is the only solution. I can't see the point of heated language about witch hunts; when I see an artist mistagged, I try to deal with it -- whether it's a matter of the correct order of name being reversed, mispelling, or some other problem. If people don't want their music to be scrobbled in line with other listeners, I can't really see the point of them scrobbling at all.

It's still not clear what you mean by "equate" -- but the "Submit artist correction" box merely registers your opinion; if a Last.fm admin bothers to consider the issue, the people who have registered their opinions might be taken into account. One page will then be redirected to the other. That has been done in a few cases, but the vast majority have been left.

I don't follow you -- what do you mean by "equate" here? The fact is that, unless the Last.fm admins redirect pages (which they're too lazy and uninterested to do in most cases), those people who insist on a non-standard way of tagging their music are helpin to fragment listeners. There are some fairly popular composers who seem to have few listeners -- because their listeners tag them in four or five or more different ways. As for cataloguing -- yes, one order books on a shelf my surname, but one prints the name on the book in the standard way.

Thanks for clearing that up. I hadn't heard of the CrazyBucket comp until your mention, so I searched the forums, and from what I saw, there wasn't any "splash" amongst its members, though in all honesty it was a brief search. Are you referring to your post in the Compilations thread, or something else? Also, one other thing is bugging me. I don't understand why bands like Katatonia, Ulver, and Dark Tranquillity have reviews on the DLA, especially the type of review that is categorized as "essential listen", with a negative review. Am I missing something here? Haha

Last, First tags are incorrect for two reasons. First, they divide listeners up into two groups, which partly defeats the purpose of Last.fm. Secondly, in English and most European languages, the ordering is First, Last; the reverse is used only in indices. The heading of a Last.fm artist page is not an index.

Do the "Best of Black and Death Metal" lists reflect the opinions of every ANUS/DLA member, or is it more of a compromised medium? How do the votes get cast? I have a hard time believing that everyone agrees that Cause of Death is better than The Red in the Sky is Ours!

Not too shabby here, just wondering whether or not I should head out of town this weekend. Haha, I can't save money if it meant my life was on the line. Creepmine is still around? When I think of them for some reason I think of bands such as Cerebral Fix, and for some reason Believer. 'Black Aria', huh? That's weird, I never realized it was a "classical" album...and that's because my friends were Danzig fiends back in high school, no one had ever mentioned this fact. Did you not care for the effort before?

I honestly can't stop listening to Bruckner. It's the most explosive affirmation of life that I've yet to hear in music, besides select moments from Beethoven and a few other great composers. He's a good companion to The Antichrist by Nietzsche, which although it may sound funny to some, has filled me with a sense of love for life that is unparalleled.
