I don't think I have! I saw they posted The Lines recently on YouTube, but that's it. Where did you find them?

XD Wasting and weaponizing beer is depraved! I admire how he handled this, including the fact that he finished the song impeccably. Sounds like he's done worse for less though! Guy shoulda known.

Ohh that's interesting lol. Shame they don't appear to be active anymore. I notice you got alot of Beefheart which happens to be one of the main influences of my top artist. I've been meaning to dive into his discog a bit more, what would you think would be a good place to start?

I've scrobbled his works much less since I picked up a bunch of vinyl but yes it's one of the greatest out there for me. He definitely influenced a ton of artists. Where to start is a really rough question to be honest. One of his later records Doc at the Radar Station is fairly accessible blues rock as is Safe As Milk (his first record in case you are someone who appreciates listening to releases chronologically), couldn't go wrong with either. Trout Mask Replica is of course the seminal work but many don't consider it to be easy on the ears for the first listen. It is intensely experimental with some atonal parts and time signatures that personally took me a bit to fully appreciate. However you've clearly listened to a lot of music so it might not be a terrible starting point either.

That last Stranglers record is really interesting compared to their later work. Their early stuff is defiant like you expect punk to be, but it's hopeful (unlike much of the youthful punk that would soon become iconic). Giants is drastic in its pivot toward crushing weariness and disappointment with the world. The image on the cover really sums it up nicely.

I never thought of it that way, that's interesting. Giants is a pretty cool album overall, I wouldn't mind introducing anyone to the band with it if not the classics. It wouldn't be a bad way to go out imo but I hear they may have enough existing material to release one more after Dave's passing. Rip x

[2/2] As mentioned earlier, About Time is my least favourite one but even with that, it has about 4 songs I go back to alot. I could roughly say the same about In The Night too and the others to some extent. One major reason their 90s was hit and miss can be put down to the line up change which you might be aware of already. After the "10" album, their original lead vocalist & guitarist Hugh Cornwell fell out with the band and they eventually decided to replace him with a seperate guitarist and lead vocalist. Hugh also wrote about half of their songs and imo pretty much most of the band's eccentricity came from him really so he was pretty much irreplaceable. To give the newer members some credit though, I think the new lead vocalist Paul Roberts has technically better singing ability than Hugh and they all still had some great moments together here and there imo. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on them if you decide to check them out some day :)

Ah. thank you for the tour! I will certainly come back and report! Considering this is a group that has repeatedly manifested absolute genius, I can see how in the eyes of a fan anything less would be severely disappointing. But we should give them loads of credit even for the merely decent stuff! I can't wait to dive in to the rest of their material. This is more encouragement for me to stop lazily relying on Spotify, since most of these aren't in their database. I used to have an enormous digital and physical collection, which I got rid of in a quest for minimalism. Now I miss it! Time to build back up. :)

Aww same here. I've been on the quest to be minimal too, at least physically. I've sold off most of my music and games collection in the past few years including my entire Stranglers CD collection! I still have digital copies of all of them however which is what matters to me the most for now. It's a shame that Spotify don't have Norfolk Coast and Suite XVI anymore as I think they're the best of the Post-Hugh Stranglers. There's also a nice b-side from that era too called Life's Too Short which I don't think can be easily accessible anymore other than Youtube. Despite having all their stuff locally though I'd still lazily turn to Spotify to access most of their music haha xD. But I notice their discog is a bit of a mess there like some albums have the wrong dates... or the wrong tags (e.g. some tracks are tagged live when they're not but I also found one track was a live version when it shouldn't be lol). More reasons to still keep local copies today lol

Congratulations on your 12th LASTFM ANNIVERSARY today :-) ... and to your >8800 scrobbled artists! How time flies by listening nice songs, right? ...Looking back - how did your musical taste expand over these dozen years ? ... P.S. Let me present this song (e.g. available via spotify/youtube) to this birthday of yours: ... the term "douze" in French means: 12 :-) ... genre: minimal/experimental -> ... 'douze' (this track has 143 beats per minute): ... https://www.last.fm/music/Erkan+Y%C4%B1lmaz/_/douze -> this is from album ("violin edition (1st album)")

Thanks :) Not really sure I could say my taste has expanded much but I have a bit more appreciation for several older genres that leads up to some of my favourite music today. Thanks for sending me your tune. Is this generated from algorithm? I'd be curious to see how it'd sound being played by a human

Thanks! It has been a hell of a ride this decade :-) Currently I am scrobbling from spotify and tidal! Using less libre dot fm as I used to. How is it for you? ... I guess the the global COVID-19 pandemia helps us all to get to enjoy our loved bands from home much :-) We are safe, so far. And I make sure we all go less outside. Better safe than sorry. How about you and your family ?

Good to hear you're safe. We're doing okay so far, I don't think the virus has reached our town but we're still in lockdown anyway. I'm aiming to listen to a bit more music this year since I've been doing it less and less according to the stats. Would be nice to get to 100k in 5 years lol

Better to be safe, and get in "own" lockdown anyways. We have here kids, elderly etc in family, so we are extra cautious! ... I am sure you will reach the musical goal. I have noticedit is good to make a weekly musical agenda, then it will progress. Have fun, and stay safe!

Wishing you all the glorious music in reaching your 66k scrobbles milestone... Greetings from Germany :-)

Agree, but the good thing is it is all opensource. So, some good souls could develop it (but the question is how much ressources/time/payment they wanna invest there?)

Well.. Librefm has been around for a long time now. Almost a decade I think and it still feels empty. As much as I dislike some of the decisions last.fm took in the last few years, at least they still put more effort into the site. I think the lack of incentives is preventing libre from growing and it would take alot of passion from someone to develop it further.

Right now I am listening to ten songs of your library, lets see how much they reflect your overall taste :). Following bands were played by last.fms radio: Madness, Her Name Is Calla, My Little Airport, Fear Factory (surprise surprise), Kraftwerk, Visitors, Denise LaSalle, The Stranglers, V6 and Luxury Elite. Not my cup of tea exactly to tell you the truth, but most of the tracks didn't hurt my ears or bored me. What I liked was the different genre styles you are listening to, but that was expected from an ex OMG member.

Ataraxia - Deja Vu -- I feel a bit stressed when I listen. It feels like when you just put your head on the pillow to sleep and you hear the water dripping and you have to go up and tighten the tap but on the other hand, it's still not so bad that I have to turn it off. NEUTRAL
