[78] The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Haha, what hasn't been said about this album? It's the best album of all time according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Such an album simply can't be nothing else than extraordinary. So it is.

The Beatles are heading a bit back to their poppy side, there is less experimenting going on than on Revolver (which makes Revolver slightly better in my opinion), but they're still The Beatles of course. This album doesn't sound dated at all, just because the Beatles their sound will never be dated.

Thanks to this list, I started listening to The Beatles albums (and there are still some to come) and now I hear The Beatles everywhere. In nowadays pop/rock music I mean. Even when the music is a complete other style or genre, there is a great chance you can hear something in it The Beatles have done too. Hissing sounds, or sound effects or the way they sing together… I can't help it, but the thought just comes up: "Hey, that's like The Beatles!"

So, that's why this album is so fantastic, and not at all overrated: you constantly hear the influence these songs (and the previous/next Beatles albums too of course) have had on nowadays music. There have been other influences too, but The Beatles just beat them all.

So, this album? Most songs are well known of course. From the catchy Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to drugs trip Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. As I already said, I find Revolver slightly better because it is of more constant quality. Some songs on this album are not really that special (She's Leaving Home - Beach Boys influence anyone?-, Good Morning Good Morning - they must have gotten the idea of animal sounds from The Beach Boys again-) but that is compensated by superfabulous extraordinary songs like With A Little Help From My Friends, Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite! and -cream of the crop- the last song A Day In The Life (what a song! what a song!).

Again, an elementary Beatles album. Of course.

We hope you have enjoyed the show!

(Best: With A Little Help From My Friends, Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite!, A Day In The Life)
