Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers @SPAC (with set-lists)

Fri 27 Aug – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Crosby, Stills & NashThis honestly was one of my dreams come true. Seeing Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers live was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Crosby, Stills & Nash took the stage around 7 and they played as well as I expected they would for a bunch of guys almost in their 70s. They played all their hits and were fun to sing-a-long to. David Crosby definitely still has that voivce, while Stephen Stills doesn't really have it so much, but he hasn't missed a beat on the guitar. His guitar playing definitely makes up for his lackin in the vocals department. Graham Nash is still the same Nash from back in the day. Besides being a little off here and there they put on a very fun show.

Then came the moment I have been waiting 23 1/2 years for… Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. There it was 9:15ish the lights go dark and a roar from the SPAC crowd gets a bit louder then it happens. The stage lights hit and there he is in the flesh the one and only Tom Petty with Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair, Scott Thurston, and Steve Ferrone playing Listen to Heart. They put on a fantastic show which covered all the classics as well as 4 tracks off the new album. Their acoustic take on Learning to Fly with the piano was simply outstanding. I also really liked their cover of Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well, it fit quite well in the set and even though it took away a classic Petty tune, it showed us that they could play what they want and make it sound amazing. They finished up with Refugee, then came back out for an encore with Runnin' Down a Dream and American Girl to cap off a surreal evening. Quite possibly the greatest concert I have ever been to.
