Best of 2009

Top 10 Albums of 2009
10. Bitte Orca
The best Dirty Projectors album thus far - amazing vocals and lyrics tie it all together, but this album never quite grew on me as much as other albums this year.

9. Mean Everything To Nothing
Manchester Orchestra won me over as my favorite band with I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child, and this album is ten times heavier. Andy Hull is a beast when it comes to writing songs, but I miss his hushed voice behind soft acoustic guitars, which this album lacked.

8. Bromst
This album makes me happy that I'm alive. It's a huge celebration packed into nine songs. It's a fantastic thing to listen to. I would kill to see this man perform live.

7. Hometowns
Each song in itself could be an album of its own. This record defines my fall, and it gets better each time I listen to it.

6. UUVVWWZ
My hometown heroes. Double U is the reason I got into noise pop/rock in the first place. They totally set the bar high for the other bands I would eventually listen to down the road. Jim Schroeder is a fantastic guitarist, and Teal Gardner's voice compliments it.

5. Manners
I get giddy when I hear them on cell phone commercials; I get up and dance when I hear a song of theirs come on the radio. Manners is my feel good album of the year, and it is fantastic. Pop doesn't sound better than this.

4. Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
…okay, maybe pop does sound better than Manners. I forgot about Phoenix. This album is on everyone's top albums of 2009, and with good reason. This album is amazing.

3. Merriweather Post Pavillion
My good friend got me into this band, and I've listened to them religiously ever since. This band latest album is a treat to listen to in its entirety, and one track at a time. Thanks, Panda Bear and Avey Tare and The Geologist, for another great Animal Collective album.

2. Album
I can't believe how much I listened to this album when it came out. Every song is different in its own unique way. Girls blends dynamics with simplicity; Beach Boys with Andrew Jackson Jihad. This album truly is a Big Bad Mean Motherf*****.

1. Hospice
I've never heard an album that drove me close to tears. This album made me cry a little bit. It's beautifully haunting, and powerfully moving. Peter Silberman's whispering voice gives me goose bumps, and Hospice is such a fitting title - I don't think I could deal with falling in love with a cancer patient and watching her die in front of me, yet alone write an album about it. Phenomenal.
