Sat 16 Dec – Danny and the Nightmares, Jad Fair, Two Star Symphony

This show sold out quickly. I'm glad I got there early, second in line behind a couple with their young son.

Jad Fair opened the show with a bizarre, spacious set accompanied by a friend who played a snare drum & some shakers, stopping occasionally to take a few polaroid snapshots of Jad and pass them out to people in the front row of the audience. Two Star Symphony string quartet then took the stage and played energetic, melodic original songs to an appreciative audience.

Daniel Johnston went on stage at about 12:30 or 1 AM with his group Danny and the Nightmares. Among the many tracks from the new album Freak Brain, they also played the classic Speedy Motorcycle and a great cover of Band on the Run. The smoke in the room started hurting Daniel's eyes, so they closed the shortened set with a beautiful version of True Love Will Find You in the End
