My Top 5 Albums of 1986

1986

5: Linda Ronstadt - For Sentimental Reasons
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4165DWNEHZL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
This was Linda's third and final album with the Nelson Riddle orchestra. This one includes some of my favorites such as "Straighten Up & Fly Right", "Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewildered", "Little Girl Blue", and "You Go To My Head". I believe Nelson Riddle actually passed away before this album was completed, which is a shame because I would have loved to have heard more albums like this. Incidentally, if you are interested in checking out these albums but not sure which to get, you can buy all three in a 2 disc set later released titled Round Midnight.

4: Belinda Carlisle - Belinda
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/212MMAX7ZEL._SL500_AA130_.jpg
I will admit that I was never a big Go-Go's fan. In fact, I don't think I even really knew too much about them until I discovered Belinda's solo work. And after I became a fan and sought out some of the Go-Go's stuff, I was a bit disappointed. Not that the Go-Go's songs aren't worthy of praise. Some of them are really quite good. But call me a sucker for catchy pop songs. And this album is full of them, starting with the hit "Mad About You". My favorite song on here is "Since You've Gone", with probably the cute tune "Shot In The Dark" as a close second. "I Feel The Magic" was also a single that didn't get the credit it deserved.

3: Stevie Nicks - Rock A Little
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41EMWWYGA9L._SL500_AA240_.jpg
Although this album includes the hit "Talk To Me", I think this is a very underrated album. I think "Talk To Me" deserved to be a #1 hit. "I Can't Wait" was another single, but it's actually one of my least favorites on here. I think that "If I Were You" and "No Spoken Word" had the potential of being radio hits as well. And let's not forget the beautifully haunting "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You". My fellow Stevie fans know what I mean. However, that being said, perhaps the reason why this is not my #1 or #2 choice, nor my favorite Stevie album is that though the songs are good and solid pop for its time, it seems to be missing some of the "magic" that were in Stevie's first two solo albums. "Has Anyone…" is really the only song on here that kind of fits that description. Nevertheless, I still love this album, and recommend it highly.

2: Madonna - True Blue
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51gHBVHteNL._SL500_AA240_.jpg
This is my favorite Madonna album. It only has nine songs on it, but they're all great. Let's recap the hits, shall we? "Papa Don't Preach", "Open Your Heart", "Live To Tell", "La Isla Bonita" and the title track. I'm not sure if "Where's The Party" was a single or not (I'm sure bigger fans could tell me), but I remember hearing it at the skating rink. I even love the cute little ditty "Jimmy Jimmy", and I remember a neighborhood friend and I making a dance routine to "White Heat". Pure 80s delight.

1: Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519CVJT2Y5L._SL500_AA240_.jpg
Even this album cover still brings back memories. This really was my first taste of what was later referred to as "hair bands". I didn't actually own this album until much later, but I felt like I did because I seemed to hear it everywhere. When I did finally buy it myself, I already knew all the songs. And you should too. If you don't….well, then you must not have been a kid in the 80s. And that's all I have to say about that :).

Honorable mentions: Bangles - Different Light, Journey - Raised On Radio, Top Gun Soundtrack, Berlin - Count Three & Pray, Billy Joel - The Bridge, Lionel Richie - Dancing On The Ceiling, Boston - Third Stage, Metallica - Master of Puppets, Cinderella - Night Songs, Poison - Look What The Cat Dragged In, Cyndi Lauper - True Colors, David Lee Roth - Eat 'Em And Smile, Prince - Parade, Reba McEntire - Whoever's In New England, Dwight Yoakum - Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc, Etc, Genesis - Invisible Touch, George Strait - 7, Huey Lewis & The News - Fore!, Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time, Janet Jackson - Control, Van Halen - 5150
