Ripoff of the week: U2 vs. Belle and Sebastian

This one surprised me, but hey - I hear what I hear.

And when I heard this new B&S song it sounded way too familiar. Just took me a week or so to put my finger on it.

U2 - "All I Want Is You" (1988)
written by U2

Belle and Sebastian - "The Ghost of Rockschool" (2010)
written by Belle and Sebastian or possibly just Stuart Murdoch

Both are built on a repetitive alternation between the two chords Ab (I) and Db (IV), with a virtually identical melody. Then Stuart swerves off U2 and starts to plagiarize himself, as the "But it all disappears and then I wake up" melody is basically the same as "innocent boys / They never know it / Because you never show it" from "The Stars of Track and Field" (1996).

No wonder people say this song reminds them of early B&S.
