Hip-hop samples has given my a greater appreciation for music in general

Awhile back, I decided to do some digging and see where Kanye West originally got the sample from for his single, "Through The Wire". Chaka Khan's - Through The Fire is where he sampled most of the beat from along with speeding up a loop of Aretha Franklin's voice from that song. Another nice Kanye West sample I found was The Doors - Five To One for Jay-Z's "Takeover" track. Now I'm not mad, but glad that Kanye and others like Pete Rock and DJ Premier decided to sample tracks from a variety of genres. I appreciate listening to the original sample and it certainly has opened my mind to explore other types of music to listen to. Some might complain that it might be the producer that's lazy, but if it weren't for the producer diggin in the crates for inspiration, I wouldn't have found out about other artists.

Other samples I recently found out about and enjoy listening to:

The Pharcyde - Runnin' sampled from Stan Getz & Luiz Bonfa - Saudade Vem Correndo

The Pharcyde - Splattitorium - the piano part of this song was sampled from Vince Guaraldi - Fly Me To The Moon (the sample occurs 1:25 minutes into the song..)

AZ - The Essence sampled from Mary Jane Girls - Musical Love

Tha Connection - Good Fella Remix sampled from Sarah Reid - Don't Tell Me Tell Her

Nas - The World Is Yours sampled from Ahmad Jamal Trio - I Love Music

Mos Def - Miss Fat Booty sampled from Aretha Franklin's - One Step Ahead

MF Doom - Doomsday sampled from Sade - Kiss of Life
