Hello there! May I ask you for a favour? I've been looking for Kicking Giant's 'Alien i.D.' quite a while now and couldn't find it anywhere. I would really appreciate it if you could upload it on a website like mediafire if you still happen to have it, pretty please? Thanks in advance.

yeah, we got it in time! i'll mail a few copies once I get around to buying some envelopes. until then, you can check out the digital version here. http://www.kdvs.org/kdviations-archive Broken Water is super tight, if you can get them to play it would be totally worth it. If you've never seen Calvin, he's quite the performer. Meotwain from Olympia played here a month ago, and they're one of my new faves. http://meowtain.bandcamp.com/

Grass Widow is one of my favorite live bands. I've seen them 3 times, this last one right up front. Now you know how awesome they are! I asked them to play the bi-annual festival KDVS puts on. How were the Raincoats? I'd love to see them! and Marnie Stern too!

Well I'm jealous you got to see Wild Flag! I did get to see Mary twice on her last two albums, I was always way too shy to speak clearly when I said hi to her! Did you get to see the Raincoats?

the pix are awesome! it's cool to see wild flag in a little more "normal" show setting, when they're not on top of the crowd. speaking of animals + men, I played them on my show this week, so if you're curious, just listen. the show this week was mostly post-punk/no-wave, so you'll love it. no suprise, calvin johnson was amazing. he did his own merch table! such a cool guy. once I get around to developing my pics, I'll show you.

awesome! I loved them when they came through Sacramento. I'd love to see some pics! I also re-started my first show, Calling All Girls! so now we can recommend music again. It's on 6-7:30 pacific time. Next week we're gonna play a bunch of no-wave and punk I think. http://www.kdvs.org/show-info/1748 I just saw animals and men last night, awesome original UK messthetics/post punk band. A few weeks ago Nu Sensae, Blockshot and White Lung came through town. Pretty damn good show as well. And then this sunday calvin johnson is playing at my friend's house!

Shannon and the Clams are one of the best live pop bands in the west. Have you heard Hunx & His Punx new album? I think they are going to do a show together at the hub, which should rock. That festival's got a solid lineup, I haven't heard of a few of those bands, I'll have to look those up. Any other shows you're planning on seeing? I just came across a really awesome band from Germany, Blockshot http://www.myspace.com/blockshotrock. It's riot grrrl/punk very much like excuse 17 and all the new northwest ladypower...Did I mention White Lung and Nu Sensae are playing at the hub with Blockshot? Definately going to be a great riot grrrl time. On another note, KDVS is having our annual fundraiser, if nothing else, it's really fun just to listen to all the dj's do crazy things to make money for the station. kdvs.org

You can check out the bands here: http://www.kdvs.org/category/tags/ormf-xi That's awesome you get to see Zola Jesus, she's amazing. I've seen a lot of those neo-folk/electronic/ loop like stuff, I really love it. On a pop note, I'm seeing Mirah this thursday and Brilliant Colors on Saturday. If you're not a Brilliant Colors fan, you will be ;).

That's quite awesome! They're amazing, although I'm not sure how the change in venue size will change their sound. Have I told you that R. Stevie Moore is playing our kdvs festival in may? Should be quite awesome, plus a lot of other cool bands are playing as well. And, on top of all that, Pearly Dewdrops may make a comeback this quarter too!

no, I don't. There's not much interest in these parts for that type of music, and I felt like spicing things up. I do plan on keeping the blog updated, when I have time and female stuff I want to post. However, my protégées (aka old co-hosts) play alot of the same stuff and alot of local sacto/bay area stuff if you want to keep up with norcal indie music. http://kdvs.org/show-info/1491. Have you hard Fergus & Geronimo's debut album? It's quite good, I recommend it. They're playing here in about a month, should be fun.

it's tonighttt!! I was at a show last night at the hub (where they're playing tonight) and I asked rick, the owner, how the hell he got them to play. Turns out, he booked excuse 17 to play in davis back in '94 and booked the first s-k show outside of the northwest in '95, also in davis!

you're going to hate me a little, but I get to see wild flag and grass widow in sac at my friend's little hip club. It's super small (he only gave out 60 tickets) so I am going to get there super early and literally stand right next to them! I'll take some pictures! I may faint being so close to so many awesome musicians! I'm looking forward to those recommendations, and I'll send some your way too.

nice charts! I saw white lung when they played here in sacramento- epic!! Wild Flag sounds awesome, I hadn't even heard of them. Are they new? Like brand new? I wonder if they'll play SF, probably. as for local stuff, i've got to start with mayyors. the loudest band ever. they just broke up a couple of weeks ago, and people blocked the street at the last house show they played. they don't have a myspace so here's a link. http://shinygreymonotone.blogspot.com/2010/09/mayyors-megans-lolz-7.html the ganglians are another pretty cool local band, more crazy garage-psych (that sound is really popular here) I love shannon and the clams, they are just amazing. I think you will too. http://www.myspace.com/shannonandtheclams if you're feeling like some tweepop http://www.myspace.com/dreamdater I just saw the sandwitches (out of SF) last week and they are one of my favorite local bands http://www.myspace.com/thesandwitches I have all of these so I can upload whatever you like

Nice. I saw Grass Widow when they played here in November with Brilliant Colors (another great band). I'm ticked off that they didn't play in San Francisco, because I wanted to see them play their new material, since they played their older stuff when I saw them (which is nice, now, I guess, since they probably won't play it anymore). I'm not sure how we should start this collaboration. Perhaps with local bands? I can copy some of the bigger sacramento/san fran local bands (alot of garage rock, psych, and grunge-y stuff for the most part)? We get alot of vancouver's local stuff, but perhaps you could recomend/share some eastern Canadian stuff? Now that the new quarter is upon UC (university of california) davis, we have new shows on KDVS. I have two, one by myself (the same as last quarter ) and a new one, mostly electro/disco/post-punk/electronic pearly-dewdrops:http://www.kdvs.org/show-info/1412 ussr radio sputnik:http://www.kdvs.org/show-info/1405

i downloaded it all, it's a lot slower and kind of a disappointment, at least to me. I'm pist because they're playing here in san fran but I can't go. but recently i've been more into twee pop anyways, you like that kind of stuff? it's usually a love or hate relationship.
